Let's Make a List

Having taken the decision to start this boutique gin bar, one's mind kind of goes into overdrive on what needs to be done and much to Karen's delight, this calls for a new ToDo list.

To be fair I could actually give it a clean, put some loo rolls in the toilets and then re-arrange the chairs and start selling from day one. All of the licenses are in place, there is a POS machine, the furniture is there, there is a bar and a kitchen and away we go. However, we went through the process of having a brain dump to determine what needed to be done and it's quite daunting.

Here is part of the list that we came up with.

  • Sign contracts.

  • Food and drink hygiene, health and safety training and certification.

  • Decide on a brand name and get it approved.

  • Design the brand logo.

  • Internal modification of the bar and kitchen.

  • Equipment purchase (this is another list by itself).

  • Initial product stock list.

  • Cocktails design.

  • Food design.

  • Build a website and social media.

  • Operating processes and procedures.

  • Recruit a person to partner with who buys into the vision.

  • Clean, clean, clean.

  • Cocktail testing with friends (whittle the volunteers list down to below 500).

  • Create a marketing plan.

  • Purchase initial stock.

  • Purchase equipment.

  • Establish suppliers.

  • Soft opening.

  • Launch.

OK, I'm going to stop there because the list goes on and on and there are som many sub lists under the main list items.

From the list above we have already decided on and designed a brand name and we need to get that approved. The fact that you are reading this means that the website is live and the brand is subject to approval. We have started on the cocktail testing and I purchased the relevant equipment to make them. I'm in the middle of my food hygiene training. I have already recruited the person to work with me and she will begin when she has completed her current job commitment.

The contract between myself and Gabriel is due this week so fingers crossed. If we don't agree on that this could be the shortest gin bar blog in the history of gin bar blogs.
